Wednesday Commuteblogging: Tourist Edition
The tourists and their wonderful massive buses are back! Whee. For the next three weeks, the National Mall and surrounding areas will be clogged with the behemoths disgorging thousands of pedestrians onto what up to now were the quiet walkways of downtown D.C.
The hot spots are no surprise: the Jefferson Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial, to our eyes. Here’s the scene yesterday at the Lincoln Memorial:
I can’t argue with the crowds wanting to see D.C. this time of year, though. The Cherry Blossoms are an amazing sight. According to the D.C. Convention and Tourism Corporation, the city attracted more than 15 million visitors in 2006, ranking sixth nationally in visits by U.S. residents and eighth nationally in visits by international travelers.
