Bill Beck’s National Road Permanent Story

Bill Beck and Rick Carpenter rode the inaugural 150-mile National Road Permanent last weekend (see below), and Bill has written a full report with pictures. See it in PDF format Here.

An excerpt:

The second control was at the Williamsport KOA Campground that will be familiar to riders of the Hyattstown/Urbana 200K. The camp store was fully decked out for Halloween, with stabbed and bleeding pumpkin heads at the entrance and giant inflatable ghosts on the porch. Rick bought a small rubber bat that was 50% off. The clip that came with the thing immediately broke off, so he spent much of the rest of the ride trying to find a good way to attach it to himself or his bike. It spent some time in his mouth (remember Ozzie?) and on the chest strap of his Camelbak (where it was known as “CamelBat”), but finally ended up on his helmet.
