Fall Leaf Tour Day 6: Hills, and luck, on Skyline Drive

We awoke to the sounds of thunder and rain in Waynesboro today, and dressed for a wet ride to Skyland Lodge. To our amazement, the rain had moved east by the time we got up on Skyline Drive, despite heavy clouds.

The drive was socked in with fog all morning, and then the sun came out here and there in the afternoon as strong cold winds whipped in from the west.

We arrived at the lodge tired and chilled after 73 hilly miles, but dry. We had a nice dinner with a couple we met in Waynesboro from Arlington who are touring by motorcycle – a super cool touring Harley Davidson.

Tomorrow it’s mostly downhill to Front Royal and then Middletown. Three days left and we plan to enjoy them to the hilt.
