TDR Rando-Photo Contest: Winners Revealed!

It’s been a week of excitement at TDR world headquarters as we’ve waited for Secret Guest Judge Gregg Bleakney to judge the First Annual TDR Rando-Photo Contest.  The wait is finally over, and today we announce the winners, with Gregg’s commentary regarding the selection.

Dark of Night:  Mike Dayton

I think many randonneurs can identify with this shot. Solo, middle of the night, struggling to get a dollar in a soda machine–and as a Pacific Norwester, (ed. note: Gregg is from Seattle) this photo gets extra points for sandals with socks fashion sense.

Panda:  Bill Beck

Nice smiley face and capture of riders and rural scene in the background.  Makes ya want to be on his fleche team.

Sexy Randonneur Lifestyle:  Chris Lane

Ummm. Nothing sexier than the king of randonneurs on his throne.

Obligatory Cow Photo:  Clint Provenza

Great moment — two hamstring-powered cultures in passing.

Spirit of Randonneuring:  Jan Bull

This category was tough to call but Stan just looks like the perfect poster-boy for rando-spirit. Nice warm light, big smile.  Creative bull-clip map/notepad on front bar bag.

Out of Bounds Honorable Mention:  Tivy Binnix

Congratulations to all the winners of the First Annual TDR Rando-Photo Contest!  Good work, and remember that the presentation of prizes will be on Saturday at the DC Randonneurs annual meeting.  Yes, prizes, and we won’t even make you buy them!  For those not attending the meeting, we will be in touch!

Thank you again to Gregg Bleakney for taking time out of his schedule to be our Secret Guest Judge. We were so fortunate to have a professional photographer with Gregg’s cycling background judge our contest!

Finally, thank you to all the rando-photographers who submitted photographs.  Without you, we would not have these great pictures to go along with the memories of the past year’s rides. Keep taking pictures, everybody, so we can reminisce again around this time next year!

TDR Rando-Photo Contest: The Countdown Begins!

Randonneurs, readers, contest participants, scenesters!

The deadline for submitting randonneur photos has come and gone. This afternoon, all entries were submitted to our Secret Guest Judge Gregg Bleakney.

Gregg Bleakney, TDR Rando-Photo Secret Guest Judge

We received many excellent entries. But don’t take our word for it. Take a peek at them all at the TDR Rando-Photo Collection on flickr.

You may notice that we have a new surprise category titled “Out of Bounds.” The Out of Bounds category is for photos that did not meet our contest criteria that we wanted to share anyway. Out of Bounds will not be judged because, in randonneuring, no awards can be given to people who fail to follow the rules!

You will also see that many entrants included a short narrative to give greater context to their submissions. These are so much fun to read!

I hope you have time to look at through the photos and read the photo descriptions. The winners will be announced Friday. Those who attend the D.C. Randonneurs annual meeting on Saturday will get their prizes personally delivered to them. What?! Prizes? More to come on that front, stay tuned!

TDR Rando-Photo Contest: One Day Remains!!

You read it right, randonneurs. Only ONE DAY LEFT in the First Annual TDR Rando-Photo Contest! To those who have already submitted your entries, thank you so much! We are fortunate to have so many people willing to take a camera on our rides, despite the weight penalty!

Thank you, DC Randonneur paparazzi, for helping us memorialize our days on the road together!

TDR Rando-Photo Contest: Four Days Remain!

Fellow randonneurs, submissions to the first TDR Rando-Photo contest have been flying in to TDR world headquarters.  Thank you to everyone who has sent in their photos.  You all had some great rides this past year and it is a treat to see all the memories captured along the way.

If you have been thinking of sending some photos our way, think no more! Gather up your entries and send them to gersemalina “at” gmail.com. Your photos will make for a wonderful online album of our time together on the road, and inspire us to keep up the adventures and fun in 2010.

Four days remain until the contest closes.  Submit your entries today!

TDR Rando-Photo Contest: Secret Guest Judge Revealed!

We are thrilled to reveal the Secret Guest Judge for the First Annual TDR Rando-Photo Contest!

Gregg Bleakney, TDR Rando-Photo Secret Guest Judge

Farmous Paris-Brest-Paris photographer Gregg Bleakney has agreed to be our Rando-Photo judge! No doubt you remember his fantastic photos of the 2007 edition of PBP.

Gregg is an accomplished cyclist and photographer who has ridden from northern Alaska through South America.  His work has been published in various places, including Adventure Cyclist. Learn more about Gregg and his photography at his website or his blog.

TDR is completely honored to have Gregg pick the winning entries. Many of you have already sent in excellent submissions and we know there are lots more. The photos are so good that we’re going to put them all up in a Flickr group for all to enjoy, so don’t be shy. (A side note: you retain all rights to your photos, just in case you are wondering).

Thanks again to Gregg for agreeing to be our Secret Guest Judge and thanks to all of you who have submitted photos so far. Keep ’em coming!

TDR Rando-Photo Contest… Enter TODAY!

TDR announces its first annual photo contest! From now until midnight January 18, 2010 we will be accepting YOUR randonneuring photos from the past year. There are a variety of rando-photo categories (and rules, too) so pay attention and submit your photos today!

First, the Rando-Photo Categories:

1. Sexy Randonneur Lifestyle. You know what I’m talking about and if you don’t, see the story here to learn more.

2. Obligatory Cow Photo. Seen on almost every brevet, cows captured on film are a must for completing your brevet photo-set. However, all animals are created equal and this category accepts photos of any and all fauna.

3. Panda Shot. The panda shot is a picture you take of yourself while riding your bicycle. It can be a head shot, a picture of your foot, etc., but some body part must make it into your photo.

4. Dark of Night Photo. Among the trickier of the rando-photos, this category is dedicated to those photos taken in the dark of night or in the early morning hours. I know it’s hard to distinguish between the two sometimes when you’re on these rides. Think dark.

5. Spirit of Randonneuring. What does it mean? You tell us and submit the photo you think fits best!

It wouldn’t be randonneuring if there weren’t rules so here they are.

Rule 1. You must be a DC Randonneur member (or have been a member in 2009) to participate.
Rule 2. You may submit one photo per category (a total of 5 photos).
Rule 3. Photos may be from any RUSA or ACP brevet that occurred between January 1 and December 31, 2009. The fleche also qualifies. Ok, we will also accept photos from brevets occurring between January 1-10, 2010. Permanents not permitted.
Rule 4. Submit your photo via a link to the photo or by submitting the photo in .jpeg format to: gersemalina “at” gmail.com.
Rule 5. In your submission, tell us where and when the photo was taken. If there are people in your photo, please include their names if you can.
Rule 6. Gersemalina and Felkerino are ineligible for this contest.
Rule 7. Deadline for photo submissions is midnight (any U.S. time zone, except Hawaii) January 18, 2010.

Judging: Photos will be judged by a SECRET GUEST JUDGE who will be revealed later. Winners will be announced on Friday, January 22 and their respective photos posted on this blog. The following week will feature all submissions!

This is not a DC Randonneur-sponsored event. It is 100% TDR-sponsored! That said, prizes will be awarded for those members ath the annual meeting for those who 1. win a category, and 2. attend the meeting. However, for those who cannot attend, we will mail the winners their prizes!

Don’t delay, submit your rando-photos today!
